Introductie

George Smith Patton (San Gabriël, 11 november 1885 – Heidelberg, 21 december 19) was een tank officier in de eerste wereldoorlog en een Amerikaans generaal in de tweede wereldoorlog.

Korte beschrijving

Patton's track record is enorm (beknopte versie):

Patton was een man die geen blad voor zijn mond nam. En dat heeft hem meerdere malen in de problemen gebracht.

Zijn vaak onbehouwen en ruwe aanpak heeft wel degelijk geholpen. In WW2 boezemde Patton de Duitsers meer angst in dan iemand anders. Voor D-Day hebben de geallieerden een kartonnen militaire legerkamp gebouwd, en hield hij lezingen over de invasie bij Calais, en vormde daarbij een grote afleidingsmanoeuvre. Operatie Overlord (D-Day) is uitgevoerd zonder Patton.

Maar toen 't allemaal niet wilde vlotten mocht Patton weer optreden. Allereerst in Normandie. Later zijn belangrijke inbreng in het Ardennen offensief met de tocht vanuit Verdun naar Bastogne in een winters besneeuwd landschap.
